What is meditation all about?

Many people have preconceived notions of meditation involving sitting uncomfortably in a lotus position, aching backs, racing minds, and hyperventilation. This, however, is far from the truth. Meditation is a practice with physiological, psychological, and spiritual purposes, where the focus is on intentionally concentrating on one thing, whether it’s gardening, reading, listening to a favorite song on repeat, or embarking on a walking meditation to calm a racing heart.

The core principle of meditation is to concentrate on and complete one task at a time while being fully present in the moment. The beauty of meditation is that there are countless paths to reach the present moment. Whether secular or spiritual, meditation offers a variety of benefits, depending on the practitioner’s intent.

As long as you are fully present in the moment, you are meditating.

The Next Step in Your Meditation Journey

Once you’ve decided to embark on your meditation journey, it’s important to know how to get started. Here are some simple steps to begin:

1. Consider this: Make a commitment to allocate at least 25 minutes a day to meditation.

2. Retreat to a Quiet Place: Find a peaceful and quiet location where you won’t be disturbed.

3. Sit or Lie Down Comfortably: Choose a position that is comfortable for you. You can sit in a chair or on the floor, or even lie down if that suits you better.

4. Relax Your Body: Begin by relaxing your muscles. Start from your toes and work your way up, releasing tension as you go.

5. Close Your Eyes: Gently close your eyes to eliminate distractions from your surroundings.

6. Let Your Breathing Become Slow and Steady: Take deep breaths and focus on your breath as it flows in and out. Let your breathing become slow and steady.

7. Get in Touch with the Silence Within: As you continue to breathe, turn your attention inward and connect with the silence within you. Allow your mind to be still and fully present in the moment.


Personal Meditation Journey

In early Spring 2019, I began my meditation journey with a simple breathing technique shared by a college acquaintance. Over time, I refined this technique and created my own, the 7-breathing method, which provided me with a sense of tranquility and emotional stability.

However, my meditation journey didn’t stop there. I explored a variety of meditation techniques, and two of them resonated profoundly with me. The first was “Reconditioning the Body to a New Mind Meditation,” and the second was “Activating the Pineal Gland,” as described by Dr. Joe Dispenza in his book “Becoming Supernatural: How Common People are Doing the Uncommon.” This book was a revelation, bridging the gap between spirituality and science, and it transformed my perspective on both aspects.

My results with Meditation

As I continued to meditate consistently over the course of a year, I noticed significant changes in my body, mind, emotions, and spirit. My personality and attitude underwent a complete transformation, leading to a new reality and mindset. This transformation can be summed up by the following:

It’s a condition that can lead to recurring intrusive thoughts, avoidance of certain situations, and physical symptoms like sweating and a rapid heartbeat.

Before we delve into the transformative power of Reiki, let’s take a closer look at anxiety. Medline Plus defines it as a feeling of fear, dread, and uneasiness, often accompanied by symptoms such as sweating, restlessness, and a racing heart. It’s a normal reaction to stress, but for those with anxiety disorders, it becomes a persistent and overwhelming presence in their lives.

My Personal Journey with Anxiety

My journey with anxiety began after leaving my job in 2019. Resulting in a constant sense of dread seemed to hang over me. I found myself burdened with a never-ending stream of worrisome thoughts. At that time, I lacked emotional intelligence, frequently suppressing my feelings and stifling self-expression. But this would change as I embarked on a path of self-discovery and healing.

Reiki Self-Treatment: A Turning Point

When I became a Reiki practitioner, I started the journey for myself. I had never received a Reiki treatment before, not even remotely. My first experience with a different energy healing took place via Zoom with a practitioner named Leigh. During our session, she spent about 20-30 minutes reading my energy field and chakras via video. Ultimately identifying a blocked throat chakra that had been with me since I was 12 years old. Despite the physical distance between us (I was in Mexico City, and she was in Aliso Viejo, California), this experience had a profound impact on my life.

It wasn’t a traditional Reiki session, but it opened the door to greater self-expression and communication. I found myself becoming less afraid to be my authentic self. This transformation marked a turning point in my life.

Embracing Energy Healing and Personal Growth

My journey continued as I delved deeper into the world of energy healing. I studied auras, chakras, meditation techniques, and the ability to perceive the auras of living beings. Despite these positive changes, I was still entangled in an unhealthy relationship that I repeatedly returned to, even though I was aware of its detrimental effects.

Over time, I came to understand that the compatibility of my self-relationship and my connection with that person was distorted. Their constant energy drain only served to amplify the anxiety that had originated from my departure from my job in 2019. In my search for solace, I turned to CBD oils and gummies as temporary remedies, acknowledging their impermanence. However, I realized that addressing the root cause of my anxiety was crucial, and that required transcending quick fixes.

I came to a profound realization: it wasn’t the person causing my anxiety, but my fear of the future with that person. My sense of safety in the present and the future was shrouded in uncertainty, leaving me feeling utterly lost. The future appeared hazy and unpredictable, and this ongoing uncertainty fueled my anxiety.

Becoming a Reiki Practitioner for Self-Healing

My path to self-healing led me to become a Reiki practitioner for my own well-being. In the first year of my practice, I channeled healing energy to everything and everyone around me. My senior parents, siblings, nephews and my niece, our tortoises, turtles, my sister’s houseplants, and my mom’s tomato garden all received the benefits of Reiki energy.

I was eager to share this newfound source of positivity and healing with every living being, and the response varied among my friends and family. Some embraced it wholeheartedly, while others were pleasantly surprised by its effects.

As I continued to immerse myself in the world of Reiki, my anxiety began to wane, replaced by a constant sense of positivity. A fresh perspective illuminated my outlook on the future, and I learned to fully embrace the present moment. I no longer dwelled on concerns about what lay ahead. I learned to trust the journey, letting go of worries and fears.
